A service where non-custodial parents can spend time with their child in a safe space under the supervision of a neutral third party. Family Matters staff are trained and credentialed in supervised visitation. They will facilitate positive and appropriate interaction between the child and parent and intervene when needed to promote positive behavioral change in a parent/child relationship.
Nurturing Parenting Skills for Families in Supervised Visitation, is an evidence-based curriculum that is customized to meet the specific needs of a family. Based on an assessment of the parent’s knowledge of parenting and competency, the educator can select educational lessons that will enhance the parent’s knowledge on interaction with their child. The parent can then put those skills to work during their supervised visitation and see the results.
The GAL serves as an independent fact-finder, investigator, and evaluator, as to what meets the child’s best interest. The GAL will provide a written report to the court based on their conclusions. A GAL’s service is to the court on behalf of the child. Using a child advocate who is versed in working with children and parents experiencing family conflict will provide important and valuable information to the court.
Parent coordination involves a specially trained professional whose main focus is helping co-parents manage their parenting plan, improve communication, and resolve disputes. Working with a parent coordinator is beneficial because it can reduce the time spent in the courtroom, reduce familial stress, improve family communication and decision-making, and allow parents more time to focus on their children.
Cases that are involved in the child welfare system can be difficult and complex. Consulting with an experienced former DCPP Case Manager and Court Liaison can be beneficial to both attorneys and parents who are trying to navigate their way through the system. Having a consultant who understands child welfare policy and procedures can improve case outcomes.
